Aigle to St. Maurice 30/7/17

30/7/17 Sunday
Day 3

Aigle-St. Maurice 26 km

Clear, warm until thunderstorm bounces between cliff-faces 1500

Depart 0645.
Leaving the B&B we find the path back to the VF easily; firstly we cross a forested area where there's a fox in the crops and then pass through a village.

Walk on a cycle path alongside the Rhone for many miles, feeling comfortable and strong.
As we approach St Maurice the feeling of invincibility has plummeted with the incessant pain of burning feet.
We arrive at 1100- no lunch is served until 1200.
We arrive at the abbey- not open until 1130.
Abbey opens- no beds to offer; we're redirected to Hotel Franciscaine.
Hotel Franciscaine- not open until 1400.

The receptionist is an educated, multilingual man who looks older than his fifty-seven years who speaks of his wish to visit NZ. He is unwilling though, to take a month's leave and risk having to find a new job at his age.

Once in our room we sleep immediately while the thunder claps and booms like the Swiss Airforce.

CHF 30 Salad, Fries, beer and spritz lunch
        48 Hotel Franciscaine
          8 Fruit salad supper
