Gambassi to San Gimignano 1/9/17

1/9/17 Friday
Day 30

Gambassi- San Gimignano 13 km

Stormy skies, wind, cooler but still hot

Probably the nicest stretch yet with very little road walking. Paths lead down the valley past wineries; the hillsides are planted with assorted trees, vines and olives.

At Santuario di Pancole there is a strict dress code at the church where ironically, the main and important feature is a graphic painting of Madonna breastfeeding the infant Jesus.
Hear monks singing in the Pieve de Cellole.
Enjoy the expansive views of Tuscany from San Gimignano. Towers, squares and tourists on scooters. Leather, jewellery and wine shops. Long queues at the famous Gelato shop.

Italian and Spanish comrades have organised accommodation in a 'commune'- a restored villa complete with antiques, with shared rooms.

Time with pilgrim-son Riccardo.

9 Drinks/buns
26 Commune
5 Gelato
