Garlasco to Pavia 13/8/17

13/8/17 Sunday
Day 17

Garlasco- Pavia 22 km

Full sun and hot

Up 0500.
Set off along canals as the sun rises. Way marking again not completely reliable.
Arrive in Gropello with its two churches and many people out on pushbikes.
Blessed to find a parish cafe open for breakfast however the proprietor obviously feels less blessed for my patronage as she reprimands me for removing my boots.

Then follows a flat walk- eventually along the Ticino River which does not provide the 'mainly shade' as promised by Cicerone. Many stops are made to attend to the feet.
Gin cocktail and panini at a beach bar and as is typical after a decadent stop, the next 6.5 km are exhausting as we continue along a small scrubby path which boasts much rubbish. Parks are not well maintained.

Enter Pavia and find the three hotels close to the train station are all closed for their annual holiday. A fraught search for lodgings ensues; we retrace steps to the Duomo and find a B&B.
The luxury of running water and applying cream to my skin!
Rewarded at the Piazza later with further Gin. And pasta.

7 Breakfast at Parocchia bar
10 Beach bar Ticino
12 Bar
10 Dinner
