GSB to Gignod 4/8/17

4/8/17 Friday
Day 8

Grand St.Bernard- Gignod 28 km

Bright blue sky. 36 degrees

The walk down the Aosta Valley is extraordinary.
Follow a water supply all day. From Etroubles the path is soft, elevated on a bank beside a clear water canal flanked by pine trees.
Pass anonymously through pretty villages.
Now that we've left Switzerland washing is hung out in the fresh air and lawnmowers are pushed around.
Blister under foot is tender but healing.
Decide Aosta is too far to reach today. Take a room at a slightly aged hotel where we pay a slightly elevated price but we're able to buy drinks and sit on the veranda even though the bar is closed.
Meet two Swiss pilgrims walking a section of the VF.

The wait staff dressed in black and white look more professional than any seen in Switzerland.
The pizza and beer is prompt and delicious.
It's clear from the number of locals who arrive, they agree.
