Viverone to Santhia 9/8/17

9/8/17 Wednesday
Day 13

Viverone-Santhia 17 km

Massive storm in the night followed by heat today

Continuous lightning flashes and hail throughout the night.
We breakfast late at the hotel on a typical menu of cakes and fresh fruit which delays our departure.
Cross paths with the Germans.

Hillsides, flocks of pigeons. WWI cemetery. Wet wood. Rabbit.

Picking jasmine and skipping along when the moment is shattered; we come to a horror farm where cows are in a filthy pen and a new-born calf has been thrust into a wheelbarrow by an iron-faced witch-woman wielding a truncheon.

Hollow bellowing.

Profound sadness.

Walk along the canals: crops of rice, corn and kiwifruit. Little shade.
Blister on the right foot improving which is not the case on the wrong foot.

Able to collect keys from the Municipal office for the lovely Ostello with welcoming volunteers.
Lunch in town is served by two Italian women who are as bemused by us as we are by them.
ATM for smokes and scratchies!
Dogs on guard again, music and boots on all day with therapeutic effect.
Bought a simcard in a shop where there were many entertaining and endlessly patient customers.

Massive storm on our way to have dinner in a ristorante with the Germans.
Shelter under a stone archway to supersonic rumbles of thunder sounding like the Italian Air force.

10 Lunch: panini, salad and grande beer
10 Ostello
5 Lavender bags and patch
20 Simcard
